Criminal Justice and Law

The group has produced a process map of the pathway of typical drug possession criminal cases and identified two tests of change which will be developed further to help reduce the risks to those leaving the criminal system and custody and re-entering potentially harmful environments.

The group has published its Forward Plan for Drug Law Reform which details the timetable for stakeholder engagement and consultation around this key area.

The Taskforce has  committed to review whether the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 affects the provision of a strengthened and consistent public health approach to drug use. The review will consider whether the 1971 Act has an impact on proposals to provide public health harm reduction services or on the availability of diversion from arrest or court.

This review is an opportunity to understand the barriers faced by service providers and stakeholders working across Scotland.

The forward plan document is available for download here.
